Comica Festival London 2012

I went t this yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it.! I'm not an obsessive comics fan, but do enjoy a read and finding new gems to read. This is definitely a place to come for that. There were many tables f comic artiest and writers squished in together, all promoting each others work.

Kindleing along....

Picture from Jon Rosenberg's "The Unicorn Crisis".

Yes..I am still enjoying my new toy.

I have read all my T.A Pratt, and am currently ambling through the world of the "Hidden Academy"., by Jon Rosenberg.I read the first Book "Through Unicorn Crisis" and  had to read more...
The series carries on the slightly humorous urban fantasy tradition, bought to us via  Jim Butcher, with a distinct British feel channelling authors such as Benedict Jacka, Ben Aaronvitch and Charles Stross, among others.

A thoroughly enjoyable read, and each of these authors compliment each other as fillers while waiting for their next books to come out!

FUN WITH KINDLE-Fated

Well I finally did it. after umming and ahhing for ages., I bought a kindle, and am now spending all my time adding books to the archive. I haven't actually read a book on it yet, but it's still fun adding them to the device.
I've also just added at least 3 or 4 from a series I enjoy -The Marla Mason series by T. A. Pratt . Do check them out.
This author also wrote the fabulous , about a comic book artist/coffee shop worker Marzi in a small town where strange and weird things start happening, unwittingly centred around Marzi herself.Very silly but fun and imaginative.

I also want to take the time to recommend "Fated" by Benedict Jacka, the book mentioned in my precious post. I finished it with a need for more. A very good début novel. Looking forward to the next instalment.

"It was a slow day, so I was reading a book at my desk and seeing into the future."

The first line in the book I am currently reading , " Fated", by Benedict Jacka.

It is an urban fantasy set in London, very much in the Dresden Files style, even boasts a Jim Butcher quote:

" Books this good remind me why i got into the business in the first place"

Liking very much so far...

Interesting Post on the I09 Website from Greg Rucka, comic book and novel writer...
Why I write "strong female characters"....
Reminds me of Joss Whedon's answer to a similar regularly asked question:

Post London Scifi Film Festival

The Festival was definately worth attending. Not only did I get to see some great films, on their debut viewing no less, but there was giveaway books and other goodies!

FILMS

Radio Free Albamuth

Strange Frame

Manborg

Trek Nation

The Captains

The other event I attended was "The Outstanding Sci Fi Cabaret"
MC'd by local scifi Fan comedian Rob Deb.
I was not so enthralled by this. Maybe it was the cleverly disguised strippers/oops burlesque performers, or the latex fashion show which was basically girls in tight clothes(disguised as comic book characers)..
However the stand up comedians were top notch. Particularly Bec Hill, whose set included a brilliant song called Dinosaurs, and a flipchart, totally reccomended!
